Acapulco in the 80s. You Had to Be There.
As a teenager, I was lucky enough to visit Acapulco, Mexico — and back then, Acapulco wasn't just a destination. It was THE destination. The jewel of the Pacific. Sun every single day. The kind of beach days that never end.
We ate like kings for nothing. A full meal at Carlos & Charlie's — food, drinks, the whole thing — twenty dollars. We walked Costera Miguel Alemán, the famous strip that ran along the bay, stopping into Sanborns, FILA, Fiorucci. And always — always — we ended up at Aca Joe.
When the sun went down, Acapulco came alive. Baby'O. Jackie'O. Fantasy. Palladium. We danced until the sky turned pink. No one slept. No one wanted to.
Many of those places are gone now. The stores. The clubs. The Acapulco that was. But the memories? Those never left.
